Forgiveness can opens doors that you never knew existed. It doesn't make you weak to forgive or to be forgiven. Its easy to hold a grudge. Try forgiving someone that has hurt you deeply, that’s where real strength and courage is found.
Forgive and forget, it isn't easy. Some of us never forget. Forgetting isn't really necessary. Forgiving is. Remember the past but put it behind you. Remember that pain was there and you overcame it. You moved past it because you are called to follow Christ. He wants you to move past it, to overcome it, to follow in His footsteps. We are only human and there is no way we can be like Him but it is in our humility that we make the attempt. We have a choice, to try or not to try.
Forgiveness is one of the best means of inner healing. Without inner peace, we cannot fully live, we cannot fully love. We can not pick and choose which people we forgive and which we do not, which pains we let go of and which we hold on to. If you find it difficult to forgive or be forgiven, if you find it difficult to accept your failings or the failings of others, you need to pray. You need to get closer to God. He isn't just in the air we breathe or in nature. He isn't just there because we believe. He calls to you. You know He does, you can feel it but you are afraid of failure, afraid you are unworthy. You are not. You are His child and He loves you and forgives you, no matter what. His love and forgiveness are unconditional. Are yours?
Our Lord forgives the most horrific sins, who are we to consider ourselves beyond that? We are a weak and selfish people who need to let go of our pride and reach for the one thing that can give us our hearts desire. How badly do you want peace in your life? Do you want it bad enough to go get it? It's not difficult to find. Peace is not hiding from you. Peace is only a knee bend away. Humble yourself before the Lord and ask for the gifts He has ready for you. Accept them because they were chosen for you alone and are waiting for you. Peace is your reward for just asking for them.
To really know God is to love Him and to love Him is to really do His will, not our own. "Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us". Meditate on those words for a moment. Those are not man's words, those are God's words. Do you really mean them when you say them? Do you really want God to forgive you just as you forgive others? Let go of the pain, the hatred, and the animosity. You feel betrayed. Our Lord felt betrayed, is your pain worst than His? Do you want Him to forgive you but hold a grudge against you? Do you want Him to never trust you again? Do you want Him to give up on you, to ignore you? Do you want Him to say he forgives you but refuse to have anything to do with you anymore? He isn't like that. There are no limitations on God's love, no conditions to His forgiveness. There should be none on yours.
When the Lord walked on this earth, He tried to teach us, in so many ways, that forgiveness is the key to our happiness. Embrace God's healing power of forgiveness. Forgive others and God will heal you. It is the beginning of a wonderful, enlightening transformation. Trust in Him and who He brings into your life. Judge not the people by their words, but by the fruits of their spirit.
So many times, Our Lord spoke of turning the other cheek, forgiveness, and compassion. Do not make the mistake of reading His words without living them. This world only lasts a fraction of a moment compared to the life of our eternal soul. Have faith and believe that forgiveness will ease your pain and bring about an inner peace that your heart has never known before.
We allow others to continue to hurt us by not forgiving them. Let it go. Give your pain to the Lord. Do not think that its a selfish act but rather know that by asking God to forgive you and by forgiving others, you have begun to heal your soul and that affects everyone around you. Those that you hold closest to your heart will be blessed by your actions, even if they are not directly involved in the forgiveness. You may be the answer to their prayer.
Someone, somewhere, looks up to you. They believe in you and they trust you. It may be a small child or an elderly person. It may be your spouse or a family member. It may be someone from work or a friend of a friend. You may not realize how important you are to them but what you do, affects them, What you believe and how you live influences their lives. Our souls are connected to one another in ways we do not fully understand. Teach others forgiveness. Teach them that pride stands in the way of true happiness. Show them true strength and courage. We all have the power to embrace forgiveness. It is called free will.
How many souls have you saved in your lifetime? How many have you condemned due to your pride? Let go of it.
Saint Paul was a slayer of Christians. How worse are your sins compared to his? He was forgiven and became a powerful follower of Christ. It started with forgiveness. He forgave himself, he forgave others, and he asked God to forgive him.
(br (/b/)Do not be afraid to embrace forgiveness. It is in our weakest moments that we find the strength we need. Get on your knees, reach out to Him, let the tears flow as your soul forgives everyone that has ever harmed you in anyway. Forgive them and they cannot not hurt you any longer. Forgive them, pray for their forgiveness. Pray for your healing as well as theirs.
We are called to imitate Christ. Forgiving others and forgiving ourselves is a major step in that direction. There are many things in this world that are out of our control, many things we cannot change. This is not one of them. This one thing is up to each of us. We either embrace forgiveness and walk in His ways or we do not. There is no middle ground here. Either you are a child of God or you are not.
You want a better life? You want a better job? You want good health and healing? You want to be happy and at peace? You want to live happily ever after with the love of your life? No matter what your heart's desire, you will not find the peace those things can bring without forgiveness.
You've wasted enough time already. We are not guaranteed another day, not another minute, nor another second. Stop putting it off. Get up, go to a quiet spot all to yourself and find the Lord. He is never far away. He lives inside you. He has never left your side and He never will.
Bring down the walls you've hidden Him behind. On your knees, beg Him for forgiveness and the strength and courage to forgive those that have harmed you. Do not hold anything back from the Lord and He will not hold anything back from you. Go to His house, not just once or twice but every week, every chance you get. Show Him you mean what you say. Have faith, believe, and let Him truly be your God.
The sad thing here is that most of you who just read this will brush it off. You may think you are already there. You have already forgiven and have been forgiven so this does not apply to you. Please know that it does apply to you personally. You are not perfect. We should seek perfection daily in all that we say and do in order to be closer to God.
Have you forgiven everyone in your life. Have you asked for forgiveness and accepted it? Have you really? Is there no one in your life that you could forgive a little more? Do you ever find yourself being judgemental torward anyone? Do the things people say hurt your feelings? Do you react harshly? Saying someone deserves what they got or you hope they get whats coming to them is not really in the spirit of Christ. Let it go. Be compassionate and forgiving. Pray for your enemies and for those who harm you.
Maybe its yourself that you cannot seem to forgive. Ask God for his help. Your faith can move mountains, surely it can help you forgive.
I hope that by sharing my thoughts with you, it allows you to see deeper into your soul and causes you to meditate on the true meaning of forgiveness. I pray you find it and when you do, I pray it reflects so deeply into your soul that you see the bright image of hope and peace staring back at you.
